Rams grab Gradkowski
Friday 06-06-2008 12:42pm CT
The wait is finally over in the search for the Rams fourth Quarterback. St Louis picked up Bruce Gradkowski off waivers Thursday. The 25 year old Gradkowski was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week. Gradkowski was a sixth round draft pick by the Bucs two years ago and he started one game during his tenure in Tampa. Gradkowski is expected to battle Brock Berlin for the number three quarterback spot on the roster.
OTA's continue for Rams
Thursday 06-05-2008 2:02pm CT
The Rams continued their offseason workouts at Rams park this week after having last week off. The Rams are getting a little banged up as they wind down the second of last week of OTA's. RB Steven Jackson has missed time this week because of a groin injury. TE Joe Klopfenstein is out because of back spasms. And safety OJ Otogwe is still dealing with a hamsting problem. Coach Linehan did say after practice Thursday that none of the injuries were serious. Orlando Pace missed practice Thursday because of an out of town engagement. Torry Holt was also absent. Coach Linehan reminded the media when asked about Torry's absense, that the workouts are voluntary and that it is not unusual for veterans to miss some workouts. Linehan says the players attendance during the offseason workouts has been the best in the three years he has been with the team. The shuffle continues on the offensive line. Alex Barron, who has worked out at left tackle throughout most of the offseason because of Pace's slow recovery to his injury, was back at right tackle Thursday. Adam Goldberg played left tackle because of Orlando's absense. The team has also switched Mark Setterstrom and Richie Incognito. Richie is now battling with Brett Romberg at center, while Setterstrom has moved to right guard. Coach Linehan says Setterstrom is still getting a look at center, but says the switch is due in part because the team is trying to put the five best lineman on the field at one time.
Rams to train in Wisconsin
Tuesday 05-13-2008 5:00pm CT
The St. Louis Rams will make it official soon that Mequon, Wisconsin which is the campus of Concordia University, will be the site for the teams training camp this summer. Concordia beat out Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to hold the camp. Mequon is located just 15 miles north of downtown Milwaukee. The Rams are expected to begin training there in late July.
Minicamp-Day 3
Sunday 05-11-2008 4:10pm CT
Rams Head Coach Scott Linehan told the media after his teams final minicamp practice on Sunday that he felt the team got everything accomplished that it wanted too over the weekend with the full squad. It was the first time the team installed the new/old offense. Offensive coordinator Al Saunders system is new to most, but old to a few on the teams roster. Rams WR Dane Looker says the terminology is basically the same as the one they had before Linehan became the head coach. There is definately a lot more shifting and movement before the snap of the ball than what we've seen over the past couple of years. Rookie WR Donnie Avery says he is really working hard to learn the playbook, but he says he still has a long way to go. Avery says it's quite different than in college at Houston, where he says they didn't have a playbook. Defensively, Chris Long got a lot of one on one attention from defensive line coach Brian Baker. Todd Johnson was back with the team Sunday and played with the first unit because of OJ Atogwes injury. Coach Linehan told the media after Sundays practice that they will have a definitive answer this week on where training camp will be held this year. The choices are down to Concordia, Wisconsin and Macomb, Illinois. The Rams will start up their OTA program on Tuesday. Only the veterans will participate this week because league rules state that rookies have to take a week off because of the colleges semester break down. The rookies will join the veterans a week from Tuesday. OTA's will last until June 12th for the Rams.
Minicamp- Day 2
Saturday 05-10-2008 8:39pm CT
The second day of minicamp provided better weather and an opportunity for the Rams to get some work done outside today. Rams safety OJ Atogwe was not active because of a hamstring injury he sustained at the end of practice yesterday. Coach Linehan said it was nothing serious. Offensive lineman Mark Levoir missed camp today because of a strained calf that he reinjured yesterday. He'll miss about a week of OTA's. A couple of things of note after two days of observation with the team on the field. First, Mark Setterstrom seems to be struggling with his snaps as the number two center. Setterstrom is playing in the middle for the first time in his life. I'm not sure how much you make minicamp as an indication as to what is to come, but if there is anything to what has been shown on the field in two days you can expect a lot of balls thrown to Drew Bennett this season. The defense showed a lot of three man fronts today in passing downs situations. And Ron Bartell got a lot of reps at safety. more tomorrow--
